Fabric Stencilling - tote bag creation

I have been really lucky to have run lots of workshops at the beautiful Hitchin Lavender at Ickleford, just near Hitchin in Hertfordshire. There is a lovely wooden classroom just near the lavender fields so a wonderful place to be creative and make something lovely to take hone. This workshop was using acrylic paints with an acrylic medium. This makes the acrylic paint harden and behave like a fabric paint, making the colours colour fast and permanent when ironed with a hot iron. I showed the ladies how to make a stencil from acetate, using different layers for different colours. We then used sponges and rollers to apply the paint and let the bags dry. It is actually quite a complicated process as the design needs careful planning and concentration. Everyone was delighted with what they had made!
